Robert Whybrew, 75, of La Porte, Indiana, passed away peacefully at his home in La Porte alongside his two sons, listening to “Tuesday's Gone" by Lynyrd Skynyrd, at 5:41p.m., August 8, 2025.
He was born on April 23, 1950 in La Porte, Indiana, to Leonard Whybrew and Lillian (Gustafson) Muratori.
Robert, but Bob to everyone who knew him, retired from Burdine Automotive after 45 years of service. He was always proud of his work and loved his “work family.” Bob was always mechanically inclined and could fix anything. He did not know how to sit down. He was always working and staying busy. He loved working on cars and was always willing to help out his friends and family. If you had a question he had the answer. He enjoyed making trips to the UP in Michigan with his great friend and brother-in-law, David Smith, whom he loved like a brother. Bob was greatly loved and will truly be missed.
Surviving are two sons, Ryan (Jessica Manthey) Whybrew of La Porte and Nathan (Alanna) Whybrew of Virginia Beach, Virginia; sister, Sharon Smith; grandchildren, Zachary and Ellie Whybrew; niece and nephew, Tina Randall and Geoff Smith and their families and of course his beloved dog, Heidi.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents and brother-in-law, David Smith.
A private remembrance gathering will be held at a later date. Haverstock Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 602 Maple Ave. La Porte, IN 46350 219.362.3333 are caring for the arrangements. Cremation has been chosen.
In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to the La Porte County Animal Adoption Center or the American Cancer Society.
