November 14, 1956-March 15, 2021
Sandra Lynn York, 64, of La Porte, Indiana, passed away Monday March 15, 2021 at home, surrounded by her family.
She was born November 14, 1956 in Hammond, Indiana, the daughter of Gerald and Gloria (Friend) Graham.
On October 4, 1976 in Merrillville, Sandy married Jesse W York, who survives her.
She is also survived by her two daughters, Misty (Shannon) York of Gary, IN, Jenny (Josh) Balch of La Porte, IN; Son, Jesse York of La Porte; two brothers, Chester (Linda) Graham of Griffith, IN, Chelso (Dee) Graham of Gary, IN; seven sisters, Holly Dills of Indianapolis, IN, Nina (Paul) Kiel of Griffith, Linda Stolte of Gary, Ruby (Mike) Matuszczak of Gary, Vera (Tom) Dudeck of New Carlisle, Geri (Ron) Westman of Mustang, OK, Christine (John) Stern of Crown Point, IN; six grandchildren, Shannan, Sarah, Isaac, Jesse, Jr., Jack, Jayden as well as a large extended family.
Sandy was preceded in death by her parents and her sister, Carol Bajza.
A graduate of Lake Central High School, Sandy moved to La Porte 5 years ago from Merrillville. While in Merrillville, she was a member of the1st Nazarene Church of Highland and worked for U Haul, placing the large decals on the sides of vehicles. Sandy enjoyed bingo and crocheting and belonged to a Bunco club with her friends. Her husband Jesse built her a screen porch on their La Porte home so she could watch her hummingbirds, nuthatch, grosbeak and woodpeckers at the feeders. Her greatest joy, though, was her family, who will miss her very much.
Arrangements are being entrusted to Haverstock Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 602 Maple Ave., LaPorte, IN where the family will receive friends for viewing Thursday, March 18, 2021 from 5:00 - 8:00 p.m. and Friday March 19, from 10:00 until service time at noon, with Pastor Shawn Cornett, 1st Christian Church, Griffith, officiating. Interment will follow at the Rolling Prairie Cemetery. Masks and social distancing are required if participating in any of these events.
