LaPorte

Stephen F. Price, age 84, a lifelong resident of LaPorte, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on Sunday, May 17, 2026. A man whose laughter, stories, and larger-than-life personality could brighten any room, Stephen will be remembered as a devoted family man, proud veteran, outdoorsman, and friend to all who had the pleasure of knowing him.

Born on July 2, 1941, in LaPorte, Stephen was the son of the late William Forrest Price and Ethel Mae Davis. He attended LaPorte High School and spent his entire life in the community he loved so dearly. On a foundation of love, friendship, and companionship, he married Barbara Jean Daley in 1995, and together they shared thirty wonderful years of marriage filled with laughter, family, and cherished memories.

Stephen was truly one of a kind. Known affectionately as a jokester and “big kid” at heart, he never met a stranger and could strike up a conversation with anyone. His warm smile, quick wit, and playful spirit made people feel instantly at ease. Whether sharing stories, teasing loved ones, or simply enjoying good company, Stephen had a remarkable gift for making others laugh.

For several years, Stephen proudly owned and operated Hobo’s Hobby Express LTD in LaPorte, where he combined his entrepreneurial spirit with his lifelong love of hobbies and collectibles. He was especially passionate about model trains and could often be found admiring or working on his treasured collections. He was also an avid Corvette enthusiast and took immense pride in his beloved 1996 Corvette, which brought him endless joy.

A true outdoorsman, Stephen loved deer hunting, fishing, boating, and water skiing during his younger years. His appreciation for nature and wildlife even led him to work as a talented taxidermist, a craft he enjoyed immensely. Whether on the water, in the woods, or gathered around family and friends sharing stories of his adventures, Stephen was happiest when embracing life to the fullest.

Stephen was also a proud veteran of the United States Marine Corps and carried a deep love and respect for his country throughout his life. He instilled in his children the importance of honoring the American flag, respecting those who served, and appreciating the freedoms they enjoyed.

Above all else, Stephen loved his family. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather who was always there whenever he was needed. His guidance, humor, strength, and unwavering support will forever remain in the hearts of those who loved him.

Surviving is his beloved wife of thirty years, Barbara J. Price; daughters, Debbie Roadarmal (Gary) and Jennifer Maxey (Rick); stepson, Joseph Hyduk; grandchildren, Chrystal Johnson, Cameron Price, Justin Jones, Kailey Maxey, and Peyton Hyduk-Szuba; as well as eleven great-grandchildren.

Stephen was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Barbara Ann Price, in 1993; siblings, Gene Price, Nancy Cook, Stephanie Harris, and Joan Hickey.

A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, May 23, 2026, at Haverstock Funeral Home and Cremation Services.
