Suzanne Burns

Suzanne K.Burns May 23, 1946-June 6, 2019 "Those we love never truly leave us. There are things that death cannot touch." Jack Thorne Suzanne K. Burns, 73, passed away Thurs., June 6, 2019 at her home in LaPorte, IN. Suzanne was born May 23, 1946 in LaPorte, the daughter of Charles T. Zila Sr. and Audrey M. (Rozean) Zila. On October 7, 1970 she married Richard Corwin Burns, who preceded her in death, July 2, 1996. Suzanne, known to most of us a "Grandma Sue" or just "Sue" was a unique and remarkable woman. She was known for her generosity, infectious laughter and delicious mashed potatoes. Sue enjoyed life and spending time with friend and family. She could have an engaging conversation with anyone and dedicated her life to serving others in the Westville Lions Club, Ag in the Class, Farm Bureau, and 4-H (during the Fair you could always find her at the Farm Bureau Milk Cabin). Her love of nature was seen in her dedication to gardening and becoming a Master Gardener. Sue worked for the Indiana Toll Road for more than 36 years as a toll taker and the first woman supervisor. Love comes in many forms. Sue showed love, compassion and tenderness to her children and adored her grandchildren. Her love extended to her animals (Baxter, Momma Stripes, and Dallas) with whom she created bonds of unconditional love. She is survived by her son, Brian (Sasha Pinto) Burns of La Porte, IN; daughter, Karen (Dan) Burns-Smith of Bloomington, IN; sister, Kathy (Aldon) Howard of Port St. Lucie, FL; four Grandchildren, Kyle Smith, Jordan Smith, Lexi Burns, and Mia Burns. Sue was preceded in death by both her parents and one dog, Dallas. Arrangements are being entrusted to Haverstock Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 602 Maple Ave., La Porte, IN. A Celebration of life will be held on Thursday, June 13, 2019 at Red Mill County Park, 0185 South Holmesville Road, LaPorte, IN 46350 at the Pat J. Smith Hall from 4pm (CT) to 7pm (CT). Memorial contributions can be made to the Westville Lions Club, 2222 S. 900 W., LaPorte, IN 46350. Online condolences may be made at www.haverstockfuneralhome.com .
