LaPorte

Thelma F. Sanders, age 95, of LaPorte, Indiana, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her loving family, on Wednesday, June 17, 2026, at Silver Birch of Michigan City.

Born on May 29, 1931, in Hanna, Indiana, Thelma was the cherished daughter of the late Russell Heath and Lillian (Rollins) Heath. She lived a long and remarkable life defined by resilience, kindness, and an unwavering devotion to those she loved.

Thelma found joy in life's simple pleasures. She had a talent for crocheting beautiful handmade creations, enjoyed trying her luck at the casinos, and rarely missed her favorite game shows on television. For a time, she proudly owned and operated The Last Round Up tavern in Stillwell, where she welcomed friends and patrons with warmth and hospitality. A woman of quiet strength and determination, Thelma was known for her thoughtful nature, her willingness to help others, and her steadfast love for her family. Strong-willed yet deeply compassionate, she was a devoted mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother whose love and guidance will remain a lasting gift to those who knew her.

A faithful member of Union Mills Presbyterian Church, Thelma found comfort in her faith throughout her life.

She is lovingly survived by her son, Allen Cole (Janet); her daughter, Kathleen Perry; her stepdaughter, Kim Sanders; her stepson, Billy Sanders; six grandchildren, Larry Lundgren (Lauri), Darren Bailey, Terry Bailey, Matt Cole (Lindsey), Aleea Perry (Scott Derr), and Alyssa Lobo (Colin); along with many treasured great-grandchildren who will continue to carry her memory in their hearts.

Thelma was preceded in death by her parents; a young daughter, Christine Cole; her two husbands, George Cole and Billy Sanders; her beloved grandson, Doug Bailey; seven brothers, Earl Ryan, Ralph Ryan, Maury Ryan, Jack Ott, Harold Rollins, Harold Heath and Denzel Heath; and two sisters, Alice West and Alice Bowan.

Thelma's family will forever remember her for the strength she embodied, the kindness she freely shared, and the unconditional love she gave so generously. Though her presence will be deeply missed, the countless memories she created and the values she instilled will continue to live on in the hearts of all who were blessed to know her.

In accordance with Thelma's wishes, no services are planned at this time.
