Virginia Hohalek, affectionately known to many as “Sis,” quietly departed from this world on June 12, 2025, at the Ernestine Raclin House for Hospice Care, leaving behind a tapestry of memories that will endure in the hearts of those she cherished most. Born on February 19, 1954, in Moulton, Alabama, Virginia embodied the spirit of compassion and creativity, a pillar for her family.
As a strong and resilient woman, Virginia carved her own path through life, operating a custom formal and wedding dress business that showcased her exceptional talent as an outstanding seamstress. Her hands meticulously crafted garments that adorned couples on their most special days, a testament to her dedication and artistry. Virginia also embraced her creative spirit as a custom hat maker and florist, skillfully arranging flowers that spoke the language of love and joy during celebrations.
Beyond her craftsmanship, Virginia was a beacon of warmth and love, especially within her family. She found delight in playing miniature golf with her devoted husband, cherishing the laughter and friendly competition they shared on the green. In her kitchen, she became renowned among her family for her beloved “Mom” burgers, a dish that nourished not only the body but also the soul, sparking joy in the hearts of her children.
Virginia's legacy is woven into the lives of her loving family. She is survived by her son, Lawrence Hohalek, and her daughters, Christine (Kevin) McNeil, Cynthia (Tim) Hohalek-Jurgens, and Patricia (Jason) Vickers; sisters Wanda (Bob) Kinsey and Sarah Leach; and brothers Alfred Tanksley and Junior (Barb) Tanksley. Her life was further enriched by the laughter of her grandchildren, Kaitlyn, Isabella, Dalton, and Dylan, who will carry forth the lessons of love and resilience that she instilled in them.
She joins the embrace of her husband Kenneth, her parents, Price and Lucy Tanksley, and her brothers Irvin, Dafford, Alton, Willard, and Waylon, who have welcomed her with open arms.
In the days to come, loved ones will gather to celebrate Virginia's remarkable life. A visitation will take place on June 20, 2025, from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM, followed by a funeral service at 1:00 PM, hosted at Haverstock Funeral Home Inc 602 Maple Ave. in La Porte, Indiana.
Virginia Hohalek lived a life full of artistry, love, and family connection, leaving an indelible mark that will forever resonate through the hearts she touched. Her spirit will continue to illuminate the lives of those who knew her, a guiding star in their memories and dreams.
