It is with deep sorrow that the family of William “Bill” H. Forrester announces his Passing on Monday, December 29, 2025.
Bill was a loving father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and devoted friend who made an indelible mark on all who knew him throughout his life in LaPorte, Indiana.
Born on February 6, 1947, in LaPorte, Bill was the son of Raymond and Harriet (Povlock) Forrester, both of whom predeceased him. Bill graduated from Union Township High School in Michigan City, Indiana, in 1964, and went on to proudly serve his country as a Radio Operator in the United States Army during the Vietnam War from 1965 to 1969. His service was a source of pride, and he was a respected Vietnam veteran who carried his experiences with dignity and a deep sense of honor.
Bill’s life was marked by a dedication to hard work and a commitment to his family. After completing trade school he spent many years working in industrial maintenance, most recently as a welder at Howmet Aerospace, from which he retired. His expertise and work ethic made him well-known and respected among his colleagues, and his reputation as a trustworthy, reliable, and hard-working man was unparalleled.
Above all, Bill was a family man. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Laura in 2016, and his brother, Thomas. He leaves behind his three sons, Aaron Forrester (Amber), Erik Forrester (Ashlee), and Jason Forrester, who were the light of his life, as well as his sister, Beverly Forrester. Bill was a proud grandfather to Shane and Ryan Forrester and a great-grandfather to Shane Forrester, Jr., whose love he cherished deeply.
In his personal life, Bill found joy in simple pleasures. He was an avid card player, particularly enjoying Texas Hold’Em and Solitaire. His love of woodworking and his care for his cherished bonsai trees were hobbies that brought him peace, and he found great satisfaction in nurturing both his projects and his plants. He and Laura also enjoyed traveling together during the winter months, being snowbirds in Louisiana and Texas and making memories that would last a lifetime.
Bill was known for his honesty, his willingness to lend a helping hand, and his quiet strength. His kindness and generosity of spirit left a lasting impact on his friends and family. He was a man who valued integrity and reliability, and he was always there for those who needed him. His presence will be missed, but his legacy of love, hard work, and loyalty will live on through his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
A private memorial service will be held for close family and friends. In honor of his service, Bill will be laid to rest with military honors at Patton Cemetery in LaPorte.
Arrangements under the direction of Haverstock Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 602 Maple Ave, La Porte, (219) 362-3333.
The family wishes to express their heartfelt thanks to the wonderful team at Unity Hospice for their compassionate care during Bill’s final days. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Fund or a charity of your choice. Bill’s love for his family, his country, and his community will always be remembered. May he rest in peace.
