Claudine Cleta LaVonne Beaty

April 11, 1950 - February 16, 2023

Claudine Cleta LaVonne Beaty, fondly known to all who loved her as Mother Beaty, Aunt Claudine, or “Stretch” as her husband would call her, was born on April 11, 1950, in Clinton, Oklahoma.  She was the third daughter of Nathan and Ruby Stewart.  Mother Beaty grew up in Anadarko, Oklahoma where she was a member of St. Paul United Methodist Church during her childhood and adolescent years.

Mother Beaty graduated from Anadarko High School in 1968. During her school years, she excelled in Home Economics with sewing being her favorite subject.  In 2003, she received her Bachelor of Arts degree in Social Work from Valparaiso University, an accomplishment of which she was very proud.

On January 2, 1971, Mother Beaty married the love of her life, Gregory Beaty, and for over 50 years, they resided in Kingsford Heights, Indiana with their children.  Mother Beaty worked at American Home Foods for 14 years until its closing.  She also worked for Harold Life Insurance, was a babysitter for many of the neighborhood youth, and later became a school bus driver.  Mother Beaty was a school bus driver for 26 years until her retirement, touching countless lives and generations.  She was revered fondly by everyone she met.  She was beloved by her community for her no-nonsense, yet friendly and loving spirit.

Mother Beaty was creative and skilled at many things. Mother Beaty was a skilled seamstress who was frequently commissioned to create wedding gowns, baptismal gowns, robes, and pajamas. If anything requested, Mother Beaty could make it.  Mother Beaty also took pride in her yard. She loved gardening and working outside.  At Christmas time, her house was the most decorated in the neighborhood.  Later in life, Mother Beaty mastered carpentry.  She single-handedly remodeled and added rooms to her home. Mother Beaty could envision something in her mind and build it.  She was truly gifted.

Mother Beaty enjoyed her family.  She loved hosting Thanksgiving dinners in her home and was an excellent cook.  She was known for her secret barbeque sauce and potato salad.  Mother Beaty also loved dancing.  Even as her memory began to fade, she enjoyed dancing with her sister, LaVeda, and the two would often be seen dancing together to songs of their youth.

Mother Beaty loved the Lord and was a faithful servant.  She was appointed church mother at New Jerusalem Church of God in Christ in Kingsford Heights, Indiana.  While a member of New Jerusalem, Mother Beaty was “Big Sister Sunshine” and her favorite song was "Father Abraham.”  Mother Beaty later served at Community Christian Center Church in LaPorte, Indiana, and was the church mother of Christian Fellowship Worship Center, also in LaPorte, Indiana, at the time of her passing.

Mother Beaty was many things to many people.  She was a protector; she was a counselor; she was a confidante; she was a servant; she was a friend; she was an aunt; she was a sister; she was a mother, she was a nana, and she was a wife.  Mother Beaty was a giver and someone who loved her community, especially the children.  Mother Beaty was loved by so many people and could be counted on to help others.  You could always depend on Mother Beaty in your time of need.  Mother Beaty didn’t know a stranger and everyone knew “Mrs. Beaty.”
