Ellen Marie Johnson, 60, of Kingsford Heights, Indiana, passed away Tuesday January 4, 2022 at Symphony of Chesterton.

She was born January 7, 1961 in La Porte, Indiana, the daughter of Walfrid Johnson and Esther (Harlow) Johnson.

A lifelong resident of the area, Ellen had her own newspaper delivery business for many years. She attended the Road To Life Church in Michigan City and was a lifetime member of the American Legion Post 434, Kingsford Heights. In her younger days, Ellen was an avid pool player, winning a few tournaments along the way. She was also a local bartender at various places like the 4 Aces. A self-proclaimed foodie, Ellen loved going out to dinner, watching food shows and hosting family and friends for gatherings. She enjoyed helping others, especially in her own community, and kept many young people out of trouble because of this.  Her greatest joy, though, was her family, who she was always worrying over.

Ellen is survived by her son, Ryan Lance Stephen (Latreese Jeffries) Johnson of Kingsford Heights, IN; four "adopted" sons, Brandon Atkinson of Kingsford Heights, IN, Bryan Birdsall of South Bend, IN, Richard Birdsall, Jr. of Chilicothe, OH, Michael Tolson of Toledo, OH; Goddaughter, Kala Anderson of Bloomington, IN; brother, Larry (Mary Anne) Johnson of Medaryville, IN; grandchild, Rhea Esther May Johnson and several nieces and nephews.

Ellen was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Lloyd and Roger Johnson.

Arrangements are being entrusted to Haverstock Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 602 Maple Ave., La Porte, IN where the family will receive friends for a visitation on Tuesday, January 11 from 3:00 to 6:00 p.m.  Cremation will take place.

A dinner will be served right after the service at the American Legion in Kingsford Heights.

Memorial contributions may be made in her honor to the American Legion, Kingsford Heights or the La Porte Small Animal Shelter.
