Erika Arzate, 38, of La Porte, IN, passed away Monday May 25, 2020 at La Porte Hospital.

She was born November 15, 1981 in Goleta, California, the daughter of Lucas Arzate and Laura (Ortiz) Medina. Erika grew up until her early teenage years in Goleta, then moved to La Porte, where she attended La Porte High School and Ivy Technical College. She was a homemaker but one of her favorite jobs outside the home was being a correctional officer at Indiana State Prison in Michigan City. Because of her love of reading and writing, she was a ghost writer for other authors and working on getting her publishers certificate. She also enjoyed walking on the beach.  With her beautiful long black hair and contagious laugh, she had many friends and family around her. A loving and caring mother, her house was an open door to anyone who needed her. Erika had a fiery personality-when she believed in something she fought til the end to achieve it.

She is survived by her father and mother; two daughters, Lisette Alfaro and Avani Oliveros of La Porte; two sons, Ethan Alfaro and Donovan Oliveros of La Porte; two brothers, Oscar Arzate and Cesar Medina of La Porte; three sisters, Maricela (Arzate) Garcia of CA, Lorena (Arzate) Anguiano and Diana (Medina) Corona of La Porte and a large extended family.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Haverstock Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 406 Maple Ave, La Porte IN 46350, where the family will receive friends for a viewing from 2:00 to 5:00 p.m. Sunday May 31, 2020.   A Life Celebration will follow at 5:00 pm on Sunday, with Father Guillermo (Bill) O'Toole, St Joe's Catholic Church, officiating. An interment service will take place the following day, Monday June 1 at 2:00 p.m. at Pine Lake Cemetery.
