What a great lady.  I interviewed her once at her home when I worked for the Herald-Argus.  I was there for hours!  She pulled out so many documents and we sat for hours talking.  She was so amused that a 20-something kid was fascinated with her collection.  What a gem of a person.

Fern was such a sweet and lovely lady. I always enjoyed chatting with her when she came into Hawkins Print Shop, usually for something to do with the museum, historical society or genealogical society. She always had a smile, a kind word and sometimes even a giggle. Besides being a wealth of knowledge and information, she was a genuinely wonderful person. Prayers, peace and healing to her loving and devoted daughter, and also to everyone who knew Fern and is saddened by the void of her presence. She was a rare gem who will be truly missed.
