Genece G. Hunsley September 6, 1932-November 11, 2018 Genece G. Hunsley, 86, of La Porte, Indiana, passed away Sunday, November 11, 2018 at Brentwood Assisted Living in LaPorte, Indiana. She was born September 6, 1932 in Rolling Prairie, Indiana, the daughter of Charles R. Short and Goldie Irene (Fuller) Short. Genece was a third generation member of the First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ). She was a past volunteer at LaPorte Hospital, Meals on Wheels, and the Cancer Society's Reach to Recovery program. Genece was past president of the First Christian Church Christian Women's Fellowship, served as both deaconess and elder, and was a member of the church's women's circle. Genece enjoyed sewing, pie baking, overseeing the preparation and serving of family feasts, weaving handmade rugs, traveling and visiting lighthouses. Genece and her husband were "snowbirds" frequently visiting Florida and Texas during the winter months. She was also a huge Chicago Cubs fan and enjoyed listening to the Grand Ole Opry every Saturday on the radio. Dick and Genece were active supporters of the donation of anatomical gifts. On August 30, 1952, in LaPorte, Indiana, she married Richard (Dick) G. Hunsley who preceded her in death on December 12, 2007. She is survived by her son, Gary R. (Kristine) Hunsley; daughter, Christie K. (Mike) Scott; brother, Allen (Mary Ann) Short; seven grandchildren, Phillip G. (Sabrina) Scott, Carrie L. (Jeff) Ryan, Amanda R. (Brian) Simmons, Brendon L. (Katie) Scott, Whitney M. (Mike) VanAsdall, Lindsay McCullough, Kirby Lloyd; eleven great-grandchildren, Daniel Scott, Jaylin Simmons, Téja Simmons, Austin VanAsdall, Cody Scott, Miya Simmons, Grant Hunsley, Jr., Ryland VanAsdall, Elias Ryan, Lundin VanAsdall; plus nine additional great-grandchildren. Genece was preceded in death by both of her parents, husband, grandchild, Grant E. Hunsley, Sr. and great grandchild, Eli Scott, brother, Merlin Sampson, four sisters, Ruth Wilson, Grace Keehn, Juanita Stayback, Dorothy Carpenter, and twin sisters, Ethel Cable and Edith Crawford. Arrangements are being entrusted to Haverstock Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 602 Maple Ave., La Porte, Indiana where the family will receive friends Friday, November 16, 2018 from 10:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. A life celebration will be held at Haverstock Funeral Home, Inc., Friday, November 16, 2018 at 12:00 p.m. with Rev. Everett Shattuck officiating. Interment will follow at the Patton Cemetery, LaPorte, Indiana.
