Lovella Hickman, 86, of La Porte, Indiana, passed away Friday, January 1, 2021 at her home with her son at her side.

She was born May 6, 1934 in LaPaz, Indiana, the daughter of Charles and Ellenora (Bassler) Strauch.

On August 30, 1950, in Rolling Prairie, she married Charles Hickman who preceded her in death July 25, 2010.

Lovella and her late husband owned and operated Hickman's Super Value Store for 25 years, from 1967 to 1992. She also delivered the Herald Argus and drove the van for her church, Landmark Missionary Baptist in La Porte. In her spare time she enjoyed baking.

She is survived by her son, Dwayne Hickman of La Porte, IN; sister, JoAnn Harber of La Porte, IN; six grandchildren, Nathan Hickman, Shawna Muneos, Daniel Hickman, Theressa Hartley, Heidi Jackson, Dwayne Hickman, Jr.; five great-grandchildren, Christopher, Kira, Charlie, Anthony and Zack.

Along with her husband, Lovella was preceded in death by her parents; son, Paul Hickman; daughter, Cindy Hartley; brothers, Charles, Jr., Roger,  Marion;  sisters, Frances Louise, Alice, Elinore, Eilene and granddaughter Tanya Hartley.

Arrangements are being entrusted to Haverstock Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 602 Maple Ave., La Porte, IN where the family will receive friends from 10:00 -11:00 a.m. Monday Jan.11, 2020 prior to the funeral service at 11, with Brother Brandon Martin, officiating.   Interment will follow at Patton Cemetery, La Porte, Indiana. Anyone attending these events must where face masks and practice social distancing.
