Michael Grant, 67, of La Porte, IN, passed away Friday May 22, 2020 at Memorial Hospital in South Bend, IN.

He was born January 31, 1953 in Posen, Illinois, the son of Casimir and Irene (Madrid) Grant.

Michael moved with his family from Midlothian, IL to La Porte in 1978.  On May 14, 1994 he married Charlene Grant, who survives. Michael was a Master Mechanic who worked for Penske Trucking.

A baptized and confirmed Catholic, Michael loved many things. A true outdoorsman, he enjoyed boating, waterskiing, snowmobiling, fishing and hunting. He loved all music and playing his guitar.  Michael was a state wrestling athlete and played football in high school. He was a skilled craftsman and an excellent cook. As a boy he built go-carts and mini bikes and as a teenager he built hot rods and had motorcycles.  He was also known to kids as "Ranger Mike" and held a special love for his dog Shamus.

Along with his wife, Michael is also survived by his mother, Irene;  son, Chad Grant of Duluth, MN; daughter, Jodie (Rick McCay) Grant of Woodstock, IL; brother, Ronald Grant of Acworth, GA; four sisters, Cynthia Carson of Noblesville, IN, Sharon (John) Nemecek of Marietta, GA, Joyce Grant of Milwaukee, WI, Elizabeth (Tom) Scheidt of Chicago, IL; nieces and nephews, Nicole and Staci Nemecek; Eric, Sarah (Jason), David Scheidt; Adam (Ashley) and Christopher Grant; a grandchild, Casimir Grant; Lucas and Rachell Carson Mikes God Child.

Michael was preceded in death by his father.

Arrangements are being entrusted to Haverstock Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 602 Maple Ave., La Porte, IN where the family will receive friends 10:00 am – 12:00 noon, Friday, May 29.  Funeral Services will be held at 12:00 Noon with Pastor Bob Vale, officiating. Interment will follow at the Pine Lake Cemetery, La Porte, IN.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Humane Society La Porte County Animal Shelter 2855 IN-2 La Porte, IN 46350 in Michael's name.
