Richard Lee McConnell

November 4, 1949-September 2, 2021

Richard Lee McConnell, 71, of La Porte, Indiana, passed away Thursday September 2, 2021.

He was born November 4, 1949 in Elgin, Illinois, the son of William McConnell and Helen (Hamilton) McConnell.

Richard grew up in Elgin, IL and graduated in 1968 from Larkin High School. He was very mechanically inclined and together with his brother Thomas, restored a 1957 Chevy to its full glory.  Richard enjoyed sports and went swimming and played little league baseball growing up. He loved ice hockey and played for a semi pro team.  The Cubbies and the Bears were a couple of his favorites as well. Richard was a 32-year resident of Indiana, retiring from Worthington Steel as a maintenance planner. He enjoyed carpentry and crafted several fine wooden pieces. Photography was another passion, even having his own dark room at one time. Richard liked being outdoors, fishing and driving his pontoon around Pine Lake. Something he always looked forward to was his "Guy’s" weekend in Canada, where they went fishing with a guide. On May 25, 2013, in an outdoor wedding in La Porte, Richard married Susan Jackson McConnell, who survives.

He is also survived by his daughter, Nicole Marie (Cesaer) Enverga of Big Rock, IL; two brothers, Thomas "Tom" (Judith) McConnell of Roan Mountain, TN, James "Jim" (Karen David) McConnell of Forest Grove, OR; nieces, Katie (David) McConnell Bihi -Zenou of Versaille, France, Kay (David Lowenstein) McConnell of Huntington Woods, MI; nephew, Jerry (Kristin) McConnell and 4 great nieces and nephews.

Richard was preceded in death by his parents; his sister-in-law, Mary McConnell and his beloved Aunt, Geneva Beard.

Arrangements are being entrusted to Haverstock Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 602 Maple Ave., LaPorte, IN.  Cremation has been selected.
