Richard Carl Menke

Richard Menke, 84, of Michigan City, Indiana, passed away Wednesday November 18, 2020 at his home surrounded by his family.

He was born January 3, 1936 in La Porte, Indiana, the son of Orrie and Mabel (Taylor) Menke.

Richard served in Germany in the U.S. Army in the same unit as Elvis Presley in 1958. A member of Teamsters Local 135 and Southbend Local 364,  he spent most of this career driving the big rigs and retired from Preston Trucking after 27 years. After retirement, he owned his own business, Dick's Auto Works in Michigan City. He also enjoyed building skids and tire chocks. Richard was the type of man who never met a stranger-he truly loved his friends and family.

He is survived by his daughter, Laura (John) Glinos of La Porte, IN; son, Brent Richard (Lisa) Menke of La Porte, IN; sister- in - Law, Penny Menke of Michigan City, IN; sister, Alice (Dana) Achor of Ft. Wayne, IN; five grandchildren, Brian Menke, Chase Menke, Olivia Menke, Andrew (Victoria) Glinos, Alexis Glinos; two Great-Grandchildren, Aiden, Tucker; several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Richard was preceded in death by his son, Devyn Christopher Menke; sisters, Marge Nowfe, Vera(Tim) Greenleaf, Betty (Charles) Krause, Doris (Walter) Strakowski, Martha (Robert) Strzalkowski, and brother Ronald Menke.

Arrangements are being entrusted to Haverstock Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 602 Maple Ave., La Porte, IN. The family has selected cremation with no service.
